Although to be produced starting in 2012, but electric-powered supercar, Audi R8 e-Tron is already hits the road on Germany Highway. Prototype version of R8 e-Tron is currently undergoing testing on public roads for the first time, with a design that does not change like on Frankfurt Motor Show showcase last year.
R8 e-Tron is 170mm shorter, 5mm narrower and slightly higher than the R8 V8 engine versions. Also same as the previous concept design, the Audi R8 e-Tron has had no rear glass, which is used to store lithium ion battery pack 53kWh along with electronics and converters, with a weight of 470kg.
R8 e-Tron is driven by four independent electric motors, two mounted on the front axle and two other in the rear wheel axle, each of which can produces 78bhp and 830 lb-ft torque. Each motor mated with a single speed gearbox and an external cooling system through the air cooling system. With two seats capacity, total power of 313bhp and 3319 lb-ft of torque that so very large at all wheels, R8 e-Tron could be distance about 247 km.
Audi claimed, R8 e-Tron acceleration is only 0.2 seconds adrift of R8-V8 engine version, which is 0-100 kmh within 4.8 seconds only. Meanwhile, for top speed, this car is electronically limited to 200 kmh in due to protect the smooth process of charging power outlet.
Audi will only produce R8 e-Tron no more than 1000 units only, with estimated selling price that would rival the Lotus Elise and Telsa Roadster at around 80 thousand Euros.
