Stop-start systems are becoming increasingly popular applied by car manufacturers on their latest products lately. In fact, two-wheeled vehicles also began to follow-up, for example, Honda PCX. It’s just with different designations namely idling-stop. Nevertheless, for diesel engine, stop-start system is not so much utilized because when to restart the engine, it takes more power than gasoline. This could cause the battery overdrawn. Or, if you want to use large-capacity of battery, will add the weight.
Well, the car manufacturers which states have succeeded using the stop-start on diesel engines are the PSA Peugeot Citroën of France. They use ultra capacitors to store electrical energy, which helps the battery start the engine while shorthanded. Therefore, the PSA system called e-booster.
In addition to its main task when the stop-start system is activated, when a car slid on a city street is jammed or many red lights, the e-booster can also help turn the engine when cold. Actually, the e-booster functions also as a support of the electrical system. By using this system, for the 2.0-liter diesel engine, no need to use a 100 Ah battery and of course will reduce vehicle weight. In fact, this system can also be used to drive the power steering when the engine was turn off.
